1. Introduction and Definitions
1.1 These Terms of Service (“Terms” or “Agreement”) govern your use of the Story Writing Lab website and software (collectively, the “Services” or “Platform”), operated by Wise Owl Solutions LLC (“we,” “us,” or “our”).
1.2 By accessing or using the Services, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Services.
1.3 These Terms incorporate by reference our Privacy Policy and any other policies posted on our website.
Definitions:
- Account: The user account you create to access certain features of the Services.
- User: Anyone who uses the Services, including teachers, students, or guests.
- Teacher: A User who creates or hosts games and manages student participation.
- Student: A User who participates in games, typically under the supervision of a Teacher.
- Game: An instance of a creative writing activity hosted on the Platform.
- Content: Any text, images, or other materials created, submitted, or uploaded by Users through the Services.
- Services: The Story Writing Lab website, software, and associated features.
2. What is Story Writing Lab?
Story Writing Lab is a browser-based, multi-player creative writing game designed to engage students in collaborative and competitive storytelling. The Platform encourages the development of writing skills through short, time-limited writing challenges that are both educational and entertaining.
By default, content and game settings are suitable for users aged 13 and older. Teachers and administrators can adjust settings to accommodate younger or older age groups as appropriate for their educational context.
3. Eligibility and Age Restrictions
3.1 The Services are intended for use by teachers, students, and educational institutions. If you are under 13 years old, you may only use the Services under the supervision and consent of a parent, guardian, or educational institution, in compliance with COPPA and applicable law.
3.2 By using the Services, you represent that you meet the eligibility requirements and have the authority to enter into this Agreement.
4. User Accounts and Security
4.1 To access certain features, you may be required to create an Account. You agree to provide accurate and complete information when creating an Account.
4.2 You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your Account credentials and for all activities that occur under your Account.
4.3 You agree to notify us immediately of any unauthorized use of your Account.
4.4 Accounts are individual and may not be shared.
5. Code of Conduct
5.1 You agree to use the Services in a lawful, respectful, and responsible manner.
5.2 Prohibited conduct includes, but is not limited to:
- Using the Services for any illegal purpose.
- Uploading or sharing content that is unlawful, defamatory, obscene, abusive, harassing, or otherwise objectionable.
- Attempting to disrupt or interfere with the Services or other Users’ access.
- Collecting or attempting to collect personal information about other Users without consent.
- Impersonating Story Writing Lab, its employees, or other Users.
5.3 We reserve the right to suspend or terminate access to the Services for Users who violate these Terms or engage in inappropriate conduct.
6. Content and Intellectual Property
6.1 You retain ownership of the Content you create or submit through the Services.
6.2 By submitting Content, you grant Story Writing Lab a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to use, reproduce, modify, display, distribute, and otherwise make your Content available through the Services and related communications.
6.3 This license allows us to operate, promote, and improve the Services, including displaying Content on various devices and platforms.
6.4 You represent and warrant that you have all necessary rights to grant this license and that your Content does not infringe the rights of any third party.

7. Privacy

9. Limitation of Liability
9.1 To the maximum extent permitted by law, Story Writing Lab and its affiliates, officers, directors, employees, and agents shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or related to your use of the Services.
9.2 Our total aggregate liability to you for any claims arising out of or related to these Terms or the Services shall not exceed the amount you have paid us, if any, in the 12 months preceding the claim.
9.3 You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Story Writing Lab and its affiliates from any claims arising out of your violation of these Terms or your use of the Services.
10. Termination
10.1 We may suspend or terminate your access to the Services at any time, without notice, for conduct that we believe violates these Terms or is harmful to other Users or the Platform.
10.2 Upon termination, your right to use the Services immediately ceases.
11. Responsible Disclosure / Security Vulnerability Reporting
11.1 We are committed to maintaining the security of our Platform and appreciate the help of anyone who identifies potential vulnerabilities.
11.2 If you believe you have discovered a security vulnerability, please report it responsibly by emailing us at storywritinglab@gmail.com as soon as possible.
11.3 When reporting, please include as much detail as you can, including steps to reproduce the issue and any relevant evidence such as screenshots or logs.
11.4 Please do not publicly disclose the vulnerability or share it with others until we have had a chance to investigate and resolve the issue.
11.5 We will acknowledge receipt of your report promptly and work to address the issue in a timely manner.
12. Changes to Terms

14. Gender and Plural Interpretation
15.1 Whenever words in the singular form appear in this Agreement, they shall be deemed to include the plural, and vice versa.
15.2 Words in the masculine form shall be deemed to include the feminine, and vice versa.
